There is a story to play through, one which helps explain the world and how it came to be this way, and that's quite enjoyable on its own. While your human enemies are armed with the same array of spears, bows and slings as you are, taking on the machines, particularly the larger varieties, requires a lot more tactical thinking.
As the outcast Aloy however, you are bound for greater things. Somewhere in the US after an unknown apocalyptic event, tribes of humans try to live quietly in amongst the hordes of animalistic robots that roam the lands.
